Dear Sir,
This was a most interesting case study. Apart from teaching, I also sit on a Committee that consults with Defra on equine matters. I should be most glad to know whether or not you were able to exclude West Nile Virus from the differential diagnosis. Recent work by the CEH at Oxford indicates a high level of WNV antibody in British native and migratory species and 5 species of native mosquito vector - consequently, the evolution of this virus is being closely watched by the equine world, to whom it is a potentially serious threat.
I am so glad for the opportunity to read your work through PLoS.
