Harnessing collective intelligence for international health and development

Even more exciting, I think, is the growing reality of 'Digital Development' or 'Inclusive Collective Intelligence for Development'. This is the concept whereby large virtual interdisciplinary groups explore complex health and development channels. An example is the global virtual forum HIFA2015 (Healthcare Information For All by 2015) which brings together more than 5000 diverse professionals from 167 countries to explore how to improve the availability and use of healthcare knowledge. The practical knowledge that is shared on the forum is used as a complementary information source to assist the development of policy and practice guidelines by WHO and others. Competing interests declared: I am coordinator of HIFA2015 which is pioneering new approaches to harness collective intelligence for development.
