I would like to applaud Thomas E. Novotnys article Why We Need to Rethink the Diseases of Affluence [May 3rd, 2005] about the relationship between economic development and the risks of cardiovascular diseases. It is important that the adverse effects of urbanization on health not be overlooked. As an aspiring doctor, I understand that the disease burden will be a major setback particularly for low-income countries seeking to achieve economic growth. Thank you for reminding policy researchers that health concerns should be taken into consideration in urban planning.
